This is mixed media collage is made with vintage kimono silks and small pieces of Japanese paper. Fans are a popular design element on Japanese textiles and here you can see some of the variations in fan color and appearance. Both hand stitching using Boro technique and machine stitching are part of the creative construction.

A mixed media abstract piece of quilt art, Beyond the Grid is many layered, colorful and deeply textured. This piece began with Kaffe Fasset quilting cottons and morphed far beyond the grid of traditional quilting. Layers include cut up quilt blocks appliquéd onto a cotton base fabric, quilting, painting and printing with acrylics, overlays of tulle and ribbon yarns.

This hand stitched textile art piece is made of traditional Japanese kimono silk designs combined in unusual ways. Blues, reds and creams are the predominant colors.

For this textile collage, I wanted to incorporate more pastel colored pieces of kimono silk. For contrast, deeper blues were combined with the soft colors on the first layer. Pieces of tulle and the pink ribbon road were then machine stitched on top of the silk base.
